This kind of embroidery stitch is a decorative variation of the regular buttonhole stitch or blanket stitch. Knotted Buttonhole stitch has a knot at the top of the edge.
- Make a loop from right to left over the left thumb. Insert the needle, point upward, under the loop (A).
- Slip the loop onto the needle and with the loop still around the needle, take a stitch into the fabric (B).
- Before drawing the needle through, tighten the loop around the head of needle by pulling the working thread.
